Mid-Century Modern on the Mediterranean

Located in the town of Begur on Spain's Costa Brava, this small space (900 sq ft) required a complete renovation.  First, the wall separating the primary bedroom from a small second bedroom was removed to create an open, split-level seaside loft.  We replaced the old flooring with white microcement.  Storage areas were created under the built in sofa and outdoor bench.  Bedroom wardrobes hide clothing and office equipment and were inspired by Charlotte Perriand's Les Arcs resort.  Furnishings include original pieces by Perriand, Jacques Hitier and Marc Newson.  A tapestry based on Le Corbusier's "Bonjour Calder" presides over the living area.  Locally based artisans provided the handwoven "esparto" rug, tiles for the kitchen, the bathroom mirror and the wire tuna sculpture.
